Prelude

Welcome and Acknowledgment of Country

Naa marni?   (Are you all good?)
Marni Ai!      (Good I am)

Lighting of the Candles

Call to Worship

Family of God rejoice.
Have you heard?
God knows your name!
You live deep within the divine heart—
held and bound within the greatest love.
We rejoice, and give thanks for this God of grace!

Prayer of Confession

Merciful God,
forgive us for times when we doubt your love.
Forgive us for the ways we pour so much energy into defending,
protecting, and proving ourselves,
in place of receiving, accepting, and participating in your very life.
(a silence is kept)

Words of Grace

The beautiful thing about grace
is that it remains grace all the way—
always available whenever we are ready to receive it.
This is true of God’s gift of freedom.
Siblings in Christ, you are forgiven!
Thanks be to God!

We sing: All Are Welcome

  1. Let us build a house where love can dwell
    and all can safely live,
    a place where saints and children tell
    how hearts learn to forgive.
    Built of hopes and dreams and visions,
    rock of faith and vault of grace;
    here the love of Christ shall end divisions:

        Refrain:
        All are welcome, all are welcome,
        all are welcome in this place.

  2. Let us build a house where prophets speak,
    and words are strong and true,
    where all God’s children dare to seek
    to dream God’s reign anew.
    Here the cross shall stand as witness
    and as symbol of God’s grace;
    here as one we claim the faith of Jesus:

        All are welcome, all are welcome,
        all are welcome in this place.

  3. Let us build a house where love is found
    in water, wine and wheat:
    a banquet hall on holy ground
    where peace and justice meet.
    Here the love of God, through Jesus,
    is revealed in time and space;
    as we share in Christ the feast that frees us:

        All are welcome, all are welcome,
        all are welcome in this place.

  4. Let us build a house where hands will reach
    beyond the wood and stone
    to heal and strengthen, serve and teach,
    and live the Word they’ve known.
    Here the outcast and the stranger
    bear the image of God’s face:
    let us bring an end to fear and danger:

        All are welcome, all are welcome,
        all are welcome in this place.

  5. Let us build a house where all are named,
    their songs and visions heard
    and loved and treasured, taught and claimed
    as words within the Word.
    Built of tears and cries and laughter,
    prayers of faith and songs of grace,
    let this house proclaim from floor to rafter:

        All are welcome, all are welcome,
        all are welcome in this place.

Our Father in heaven,

your will be done,

on earth as in Heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial

and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours

Prayer After Communion

The love of the faithful Creator,
The peace of the wounded Healer,
The joy of the challenging Spirit,
The hope of the Three-in-One,
surround and encourage us today, tonight, and forever.

We thank you God for feeding us today,
may we go from here in your love,
knowing your presence with us always. Amen.

We sing: Let Us Talents and Tongues Employ

  1. Let us talents and tongues employ,
    reaching out with a shout of joy;
    bread is broken, the wine is poured,
    Christ is spoken and seen and heard.

        Jesus lives again, earth can breathe again,
        pass the Word around: loaves abound!

  2. Christ is able to make us one,
    at the table he sets the tone,
    teaching people to live to bless,
    love in word and in deed express.

        Jesus lives again, earth can breathe again,
        pass the Word around: loaves abound!

  3. Jesus call us in, sends us out
    bearing fruit in a world of doubt,
    gives us love to tell, bread to share:
    God-Immanuel everywhere.

        Jesus lives again, earth can breathe again,
        pass the Word around: loaves abound!

Scripture Reading: Luke 10:1-11

After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. He said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go on your way; I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals, and greet no one on the road. Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ And if a person of peace is there, your peace will rest on that person, but if not, it will return to you. Remain in the same house, eating and drinking whatever they provide, for the laborer deserves to be paid. Do not move about from house to house. Whenever you enter a town and its people welcome you, eat what is set before you; cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ But whenever you enter a town and they do not welcome you, go out into its streets and say, ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off in protest against you. Yet know this: the kingdom of God has come near.’

The Gospel of Christ, Light of the world.
Thanks be to God.

Offering Prayer

We sing: Here I Am Lord

  1. I, the Lord of sea and sky,
    I have heard my people cry.
    All who dwell in dark and sin
    my hand will save.
    I who made the stars of night,
    I will make their darkness bright
    Who will bear my light to them?
    Whom shall I send?

        Here I am, Lord, is it I, Lord?
        I have heard you calling in the night;
        I will go, Lord, if you lead me;
        I will hold your people in my heart.

  2. I, the Lord of snow and rain,
    I have borne my people’s pain;
    I have wept for love of them.
    They turn away.
    I will break their hearts of stone,
    give them hearts for love alone.
    I will speak my word to them.
    Whom shall I send?

        Here I am, Lord, is it I, Lord?
        I have heard you calling in the night;
        I will go, Lord, if you lead me;
        I will hold your people in my heart.

  3. I, the Lord of wind and flame
    I will tend the poor and lame;
    I will set a feast for them.
    My hand will save.
    Finest bread I will provide
    till their hearts are satisfied.
    I will give my life to them.
    Whom shall I send?

        Here I am, Lord, is it I, Lord?
        I have heard you calling in the night;
        I will go, Lord, if you lead me;
        I will hold your people in my heart.

Sending Forth and Benediction

As Jesus sent out the seventy-two, so we are sent now.
Jesus sends us to be beautiful offerings,
to carry peace, to be welcomed into the lives of others.
Go, eat, drink—really share life with people.
Point to what is good and hopeful, tell people where the richest of love can be found.
And may you truly relax and be at home
in the relentless affection of God.
Rejoice! Your names are written in heaven!
Go in peace.
In the name of Christ, we will go.

We sing: Thuma Mina

  1. Thuma mina, thuma mina,
    thuma mina Somandla. (repeat)

  2. Send me, Jesus; send me, Jesus;
    send me, Jesus; send me, Lord. (repeat)

  3. Lead me, Jesus; lead me, Jesus;
    lead me, Jesus; lead me, Lord. (repeat)

  4. I will go, Lord; I will go, Lord:
    in your name, Lord, I will go. (repeat)
