A Light on the Hill

Acts of Kindness

In the season before us at Brougham Place, as we undergo a consultation to help us move forward, it could be easy for us at times to look inward to our Church’s needs, for survival. As we reflect on who we are and share our hopes and dreams for the future, may we also focus outwards.. seeking God’s leading in mission.

A little challenge: What if we were all to engage in Acts of Kindness, demonstrating to others, God’s love, generosity and care towards all people?

Inspired by the United States of Kindness movement, where everyone in the United States is being encouraged to complete 250 acts of kindness as a way of celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States. We don’t need to engage in 250 acts of kindness(!), but we could each think about what we can offer in our daily lives.

  • Send an appreciation card to someone, especially someone who may not often be noticed or thanked.
  • Bake a batch of biscuits for someone – a neighbour, colleague, teacher
  • Drop off a meal for someone who is ill, lost a loved one, or just came home from the hospital (call first to arrange!)
  • Mow or rake your neighbour’s verge
  • Donate blood
  • Leave an encouraging note on a car windshield in a carpark
  • Help someone move house
  • Take out or bring in your neighbour’s bins on rubbish day
  • Pay for the person behind you in the drive-through
  • Knit or Crochet an Angel for this Christmas https://www.bpuc.org/knitted_angels/
  • Support Gifts ‘n Goodies

What would you add to this list?

Perhaps some of these can be a starting point towards building deeper relationships with people longing for connection.

May we share the love and abundant sustaining grace that we have received in Jesus with others, so that they too may experience life to the full.
