A Light on the Hill

Calling all Knitters (and Crocheters)!

You are invited to help us bless our community this Christmas with gifts of Christmas Angels.

Christmas, or Knitted, Angels are based on a project which started in 2014 in the United Kingdom, by North Shields and Whitley Bay Circuit. It has since been adopted by many other Churches throughout the UK.

We joined in this movement in 2023. We ‘yarn bomb’ our local neighbourhood with knitted (or crocheted) angels bringing Christmas hope and joy. A simple act of kindness that really make a difference for the people who find them.

Our hope is they will keep their angel and be blessed by the message of good news which we attach before sending them out.

Why Angels?

In the stories of Jesus’ birth, we are told how angels – God’s messengers – came to bring people good news at times when they were often confused or anxious.
They came to Mary when she was told she would become pregnant, to Joseph when he was deciding whether to end his relationship with Mary and to the shepherds when Jesus was born.
Each time, the angels reassured them with the phrase: “Do not be afraid” and explained that God was with them.
Our prayer is that as people find their angels, they will know that God’s love and peace is with them too.

So, if you Knit or Crochet, download a pattern (see links below) and get started!
While you are making your Angels, pray for those who will receive them.

We will have a stash of printed patterns, wool and filling available soon at the Church.

If you are not a knitter, you are welcome to donate wool (preferably white or cream coloured and natural fibres if possible) to share or you can donate $ to buy some.

If you are not a knitter, you might be willing to donate some wool or cash to buy wool. (Please note that natural fibres are preferred if possible.)
You might also think of someone who is a knitter or crocheter and invite them to join in.

Christmas Angels will be commissioned at our Worship Service on Sunday 21st of December.

Last year we sent out 120 Angels. Let’s aim for 150 this Christmas!
