Reflections on What Sustains Your Faith?
In January 2026, we had a worship series entitled ‘What Sustains Your Faith?’.
Here are some personal reflections shared by David Kranz.
Please note that reflections shared in this Exploring Faith section of our website are of a personal nature and do not necessarily represent the views of this Congregation or the Uniting Church. We share them in the spirit of being a welcoming and inclusive community.
What sustains your Faith? David Kranz reflects.
We were privileged on Sundays 11th an 18th Jan 26 to hear the diverse histories of two members’ Faith journeys. It prompted me to reflect on my own.
In over-view. I note that very nurturing parenting prompted a rich faith in me that underpinned numerous leadership roles in local, district, and statewide Methodist Youth activities. Such faith has now gently morphed towards increasing Certainty. The shift was triggered, nine years ago, by a random Email—discussed later.
I stuttered a bit when I was three. You can’t stutter when you sing, so, before I was four, dad put me in the Junior Choir at Tod St Gawler. Thereafter, I was singing in or leading church choirs. I was the bloke that ‘warmed up’ attendees of the annual Methodist Youth rallies, then held in the ‘Tivoli Theatre’ in Grote Street. I had the trinity of singers in the stalls’, the ‘dress circle’ and the ‘gods’ all singing popular ‘choruses’ in competition, concert or canon—as directed—towards creating an attentive and receptive mood for the events that followed.
I taught the senior group in Sunday school, organized weekly youth group meetings, and led the junior choir. I was an accredited ‘local preacher’ with ‘appointments’ every three weeks or so at any of the ten or so churches in the Gawler or Gawler West Circuits. I helped organize and conduct annual District Rallies at Kapunda.
My work in telecommunications took me to Kingston S.E. for three years where I taught, preached, and conducted the local choir. Then back to Gawler where I was invited to be Scout Master. I agreed. A visiting Scout Commissioner seemed impressed with the way I worked and virtually offered me an appointment as a Juvenile Probation Officer in the State Public Service. I accepted and undertook the Social Work Diploma at the University of Adelaide.
Here’s the link. One assignment in the Philosophy 1 subject severely challenged, and dented my Faith journey— by me proving that, ‘because there is ‘evil’ in the world, God could only have any two, but not all three, Divine qualities: ‘All loving’, ‘All knowing’ and ‘All powerful’.
The lecturer’s response ‘well argued! Distinction’ didn’t help. It must be so. Some dent!
Some twenty years later, during BPUC’s 150th celebrations, historian Trevor Schafer, drew attention to the founding policy of the Rev. James Jefferis M.A., LL.B.: ‘In this place we will view Life through three lenses— the Theological, the Philosophical, and the Scientific’. My life would have been richer if the ‘gleaner-cum-cobbler’ in me had viewed my cogitations through all three lenses. Let me explain.
After Trevor’s reminder, I clearly saw that I had only used the ‘Philosophy lens’ in arguing my case. Had I also used the ‘Theological lens’, I could have argued that the proposition was not an imperative, but a presumption.
The theological lens had me note that humans are gifted with freedom to choose— and that ‘evil’ is a consequence of human selfish, indulgent, greedy and sinister choices and behaviours. I was determined to ‘reconnect’ with the Divine in whatever shape that might emerge. My Intention was further tantalized by an unsolicited Email that declared: Call it God if you like ……. but Quantum Consciouness will do.’ Since then, I have ‘star-gazed’ through all three lenses to glean a deeper appreciation of life’s ‘ultimates’. I cobbled my layman’s understanding of the quantum world in YouTube format—primarily as a personal diary. I also posted my conclusions in the ‘Exploring Faith’ section of BPUC website, knowing that their deviation from the traditional viewpoint may well be seen by some as ‘too complicated’, ‘far fetched’ or even ‘blasphemous’.
Before posting, I internally debated the ethics of posting material that deviates markedly from the traditional view. I drew comfort by recalling that Jefferis (and Stow) purposefully elected to deviate from architectural norms at Brougham place ‘to attest to the reputation of South Australia as a ‘Paradise of Religious Dissent’. The only response to my musings was from the late Rev. John Mauviel. I cherish the frequent fruitful chats that we had about the merit, accuracy, substance and implications of my conclusions.
I will share new insights, gleaned through the ‘science lens’, that triggered behaviours that have enhanced my intimacy and interaction with the Divine.
The nature of the Divine
I’ve learned that the Universe is, indeed, ‘Uni’ —a complex ‘one-ness’s, wherein each and every entity is intimately connected. I’ve learned that a change in any single entity impacts the whole. The Universe is ‘self-aware’. It consciously knows all the ’whens’, ‘whats’, ‘hows’ and ‘whys’ and all the hopes and fears in its ‘Universal Mind’. Such Consciousness is now known to be the ‘Ground of ALL being’—including the sub-atomic particles that the ‘reductionist’ sciences claim to be fundamental (1). All aspects of such magnificent oneness are both synthesised and energised by Love. This fundamental, benevolent, unified, creative source was dubbed the ‘Mind of God’ by pioneer Quantum researcher, Amit Goswami. It follows that, in such unified oneness, all ‘little c‘ conscious minds like mine, are seamlessly ‘nested’ in ‘Big C’ Consciousness— Universal Mind. The joy is that we can ‘chat’ directly— my ‘little c’ mind with ‘Big C’ Mind of God. This one step ‘monistic’ connection is far more intimate than the traditional two step ‘dualistic’ relationship that our ancestors adopted from the anthropomorphized Divinity of the Hebrew culture. We ask ‘up’ and await a reply ‘down’. We have unnecessarily long periods of ‘discernment’. Jesus had it right—‘Ask and it shall be given unto you’. We get instant clarity in a ‘chat’.
The nature of the chat
It is apparent that the ‘Mind of God’ is happy to ‘chat’. For centuries, ‘water diviners’ have held twig or wire ‘rods’ when asking questions about underground water— ‘Is there water underground here?’ — ‘Is it palatable? —permanent? —less than 30 feet deep? —and the like!. The rods will move to answer ‘yes’ and ‘stay put’ if the answer is ‘’no’. It used to be seen as ‘spooky’. Many farmers are now grateful. Recall that the mind of every sentient being is seamlessly ‘nested’ in the divine Universal Mind —the Mind of God. We are ‘on line’ for a chat 24/7. We are able to determine the current truth about the ‘right-ness’ of any unclear option, assertion, intention, proposal or choice. However, Universal Mind is not a predictor of future outcomes. Don’t bother asking if your team will win next Saturday!
I use a simple pendulum (not rods) to ‘get answers’. I calI it a ‘Dongle’— its function is akin to a computer dongle that allows access to protected data. It rotates clockwise for ‘yes’ and anti-clockwise for ‘no’. It oscillates between twelve and six to signal a ‘maybe’ whose outcome depends upon a future event (2). These events occur ‘kinesiologically’ — the state of muscles change. Some health practitioners may ‘muscle test’ to diagnose certain conditions in the bodies ‘innate awareness’. Such awareness flows from Universal Mind. My dongle tells me that muscle tones vary in alignment with the axiom that ‘truth is stronger than falsity’.
What follows is a summary of a series of successful ‘chats’. Vicky and I both had Covid at the end of May 2024. It triggered what our GP diagnosed as Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Whatever he prescribed did not ‘do the trick’, and so I was referred to a Specialist who prescribed Amitriptyline, an anti-depressant that was said to benefit many similar post-covid cases. The drug made me tired but did not help. I persisted for two months without benefit. The specialist booked me in for further investigation some weeks later. I then, a la ‘Wordsworth’, sat in pensive mood and reflected that ‘what comes out must have first gone in’. That started a long ‘chat’ — dongle at the ready. ‘Would it help me to ‘fast?’ ‘Yes’. ‘How long, three days?’ ‘No.’ ‘Less?’ ‘Yes.’ Two days?’ ‘No’. ‘Just 24 hours?’ ‘Yes.’ Would a detailed diet help?’ ‘Yes’. We chatted on checking specifics, frequencies, volumes and sequences across a wide range of foods. A set dose of Noni Juice, thirty minutes before breakfast, and a level teaspoon of Ashwagandha Powder with breakfast and tea were both ‘out of left field’ for me. We monitored progress through frequent ‘chats’. Conditions improved. I was back to normal well within two week.
There are times when we really ‘want’ an affirming ‘yes’ to an option that leads to selfish gain. It is important to note that we can influence the ‘answer’. The likelihood of that depends on how we callibrate on David Hawkins’ ‘Map of Consciousness’. The map lists the implications of different levels of human consciousness in relationship to Universal Consciousness. I’ll not detail the map here. I mention it, primarily, to say that I have an ‘arranged code’ of sequenced oscillations and rotations whereby Big C confirms the veracity of the response.
The efficacy of prayer
I am now a gleaner and a cobbler with a failing memory and increased hearing loss— with a richer view of the source and applications of love and truth. I now see a universe that is Divine, whose Divinity was deified, in limited human terms, by ancestors who had no awareness of the all-knowing, self-knowing energy field whose universal consciousness is the ground of all being. Early tradition sees humanity in dualistic relationship with its God. We now know that human mind is nested in Universal mind whose wisdom is accessible directly, monistically, by intent.
I now experience kinship with Jesus —not as saviour of sinners, but as a friend, who models the full humanity whose qualities are latent in varying degrees in all humanity.
I now use kinesiology to test information for truth or non-truth and have negotiated a way with Universal mind to be told if my ego desires have influenced the testing.
Here is an example of the ‘nesting of conscience’— ‘little c in Big C’.
A near exhausted sparrow was flying upwards in desperate attempts to free itself from a netted area over my garden and apricot tree. It must have got in through a hole that I was unaware of. I felt its pain. I reasoned that if all minds are nested in Universal mind, then my mind could communicate with the mind of the sparrow. (I’ve learned that consciousness pervades the universe) So I simply thought this instruction: ’sparrow, fly down six feet, head north, the gate is open’. Its response was spontaneous. My heart rejoiced as it flew off freely. I have repeated the trial successfully.
I am David Kranz,
PS.
During my mid to late 80’s I cobbled several YouTubes, primarily as a way of recalling stuff that I realized would be harder to recall as time rolled by. I’ll list them without expectation: ‘Not the God I grew up with’. ‘Consciousness, Mind of God and Creativity’. ‘Refugees’.
‘The mind of God and me’. ‘My Jesus Jigsaw’. A letter to my Great Grand Children (2 parts)

- ‘Galileo Commission’ to follow the ongoing debate around the limitations of reductionism.
- These rotations may be reversed. To check one’s personsl ‘polarity’, hold a simple pendulum about three inches above your open free hand and ask ‘show me a yes’, and then a ‘no’. The drections are constant.
