Pentecost. Red
We acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional carers of the land on which our church is built.
As you wait for worship to begin, please turn your phone to silent.
Naa marni? (Are you all
good?)
Marni Ai! (Good I
am)
Today we celebrate Pentecost, and the gift of the Holy Spirit.
We light the candles and invite God’s Spirit to be upon us during this
time of worship.
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful
people;
and kindle in us the fire of your love.
Spirit of Love (R Nairn)
The God who created the universe and sustains it in love,
calls us here.
The Christ who came and lived a life like us, was crucified, rose,
and reigns with the Father,
calls us here.
The Spirit in whom God’s truth and power still comes to us,
calls us here.
Let us worship God.
Life to the Brim, Life overflowing
Life pouring out in compassion and grace
Spirit of God, Well up within us
Bring us to life in this time and this place.
Life to the brim, Life overflowing
Life flooding in from below and above
Spirit of God, Pour out upon us
Bring us to faith and to hope and to love.
Come Holy Spirit
Lord and giver of life
Make us your people
Make us the body of Christ
Life to the brim, Life overflowing
Foretaste and sign of the healing to come
Spirit of God, Strengthen and guide us
Take us and use us ’til your kingdom’s come.

Spirit Brooding (S. Price, L. Newton)
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
Now there were devout Jews from every people under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs—in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.” All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” But others sneered and said, “They are filled with new wine.”
But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, “Fellow Jews and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o’clock in the morning. No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
’In the last days it will be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh,
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.
Even upon my slaves, both men and women,
in those days I will pour out my Spirit,
and they shall prophesy.
And I will show portents in the heaven above
and signs on the earth below,
blood, and fire, and smoky mist.
The sun shall be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood,
before the coming of the Lord’s great and glorious day.
Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’
May the Spirit of God open our eyes to see, our ears to hear,
and our hearts to understand.
We say –
God created the universe, and the world we live in, and every
living thing on this earth.
We believe –
the creation shows us the power and presence of God, and makes
us want to praise and give thanks to God, and take good care of the
earth God has made.
We are full of joy –
that across the world different peoples have their own culture
and language, and that in God we are all united together as
one.
We say –
God is Spirit, breath of life, who is always working to bring
people to life in God.
We believe –
the Spirit has been alive and active in every race and culture,
getting hearts and minds ready for good news: the good news of God’s
love and grace that Jesus Christ revealed.
We are full of joy –
that from the beginning the Spirit was alive and active,
revealing God through the law, custom and ceremony of the First Peoples
of this ancient land.
We say –
Jesus is Saviour and Lord, and that he began the church, and
prayed that the church might be together as one.
We believe –
that in the risen Jesus we are all brothers and sisters in the
one great family of God, and that God calls us to live in faith, hope
and love for the sake of the reign of God here on earth.
We are full of joy –
that we can learn, grow and serve together as pilgrim people in
the name of Christ.
Filled with the Spirit’s power, with one accord
the infant church confessed its risen Lord:
O Holy Spirit, in the church today
no less your power of fellowship display.
Now with the mind of Christ set us on fire,
that unity may be our great desire:
give joy and peace; give faith to hear your call,
and readiness in each to work for all.
Widen our love, good Spirit, to embrace
in your strong care all those of every race:
like wind and fire with life among us move
till we are known as Christ’s, and Christians prove.

In our own heart language, or making use of the prayer books in the pews, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying…
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.
To give electronically please

Alternatively, there is an offering bowl near the lectern on the left-hand side as you exit the church.
As a fire is meant for burning
with a bright and warming flame,
so the Church is meant for mission,
giving glory to God’s name.
Preaching Christ, and not our customs,
let us build a bridge of care,
joining hands across the nations,
finding neighbours everywhere.
We are learners; we are teachers;
we are pilgrims on the way.
We are seekers; we are givers;
we are vessels made of clay.
By our gentle, loving actions,
we will show that Christ is light.
In a humble, listening Spirit,
we will live to God’s delight.
