A Light on the Hill
Sunday 18 May, 2025
Preacher: Rev Linda Driver
Easter 5. White.
Baptism of Oliver and Kaysen Eldridge
We acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional carers of the land on which our church is built.
As you wait for worship to begin, please turn your phone to silent.
Naa marni?
(Are you all good?)
Marni Ai!
(Good I am)
Let us join with all creation to praise God’s name.
Let us join with hearts and hands and voices.
Let us join together in worship.
Joyful, joyful, we adore you,
God of glory, God of love;
hearts unfold like flowers before you
opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness,
drive the dark of doubt away;
giver of immortal gladness,
fill us with the light of day.
All your works with joy surround you,
earth and heav’n reflect your rays,
stars and angels sing around you,
centre of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
flowery meadow, flashing sea,
singing bird and flowing fountain
call to praise you joyfully.
You are giving and forgiving,
ever blessing, ever blest,
well-spring of the joy of living,
ocean-depth of happy rest.
You our Father, Christ our brother,
all are yours who live in love;
teach us how to love each other,
lift us to your joy above.
Together in Song 152. Henry Van Dyke 1852-1933alt. Public Domain.
Creator God,
you have made all things good. We celebrate your goodness and the
goodness of your creation, this day and always.
Amen.
God of grace, we bring our confessions before you:
For those times when we have not listened,
we are sorry.
For those times when we have not cared,
we are sorry.
For those times when we have hurt someone,
or ourselves,
or you,
we are sorry.
God is gracious and good and just.
Let our hearts be filled with forgiveness and love.
Amen.
The peace of our God be with you.
And also with you.
Children and youth to stay for the baptism.
Welcome

The Meaning of Baptism
The Confession of Faith
Please join me in our Confession of Faith.
We are not alone; we live in God’s world.
We believe in God:
who has created and is creating;
who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh,
to reconcile and make new;
who works in us and others by the Spirit.
We trust in God.
We are called to be the Church:
to celebrate God’s presence;
to love and serve others;
to seek justice and resist evil;
to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,
our judge and our hope.
In life, in death, in life beyond death,
God is with us.
We are not alone.
Thanks be to God.

Responses
…Friends in Christ, will you promise to maintain a life of worship and
teaching, witness and service so that this child and all the children
among you may grow in the Grace of Jesus Christ and the knowledge and
love of God?
With God’s help, we will live out our baptism
As a loving community in Christ:
We will nurture one another in faith,
uphold one another in prayer,
and encourage one another in service. Amen.
Prayers
We sing: May The Feet Of God Walk With You
May the feet of God walk with you,
and his hand hold you tight.
May the eye of God rest on you,
and his ear hear your cry.
May the smile of God be for you,
and his breath give you life.
May the Child of God grow in you,
and his love bring you home.

Presentation
Blessing
Children may now go downstairs for Sunday School. Parents, you are welcome to join your child in Sunday School if you feel your child may need your assistance. Alternatively, you may wish for your child to remain with you for the duration of worship. Activity packs are available at the entrances.
Refrain:
Father welcomes all his children
to his family through his Son;
Father giving his salvation,
life forever has been won.
Little children, come to me,
for my kingdom is of these;
life and love I have to give,
mercy for your sin.
Father welcomes all his children
to his family through his Son;
Father giving his salvation,
life forever has been won.
In the water, in the word
in his promise, be assured.
Walk in the love of Christ our Lord,
live in the peace of God.
Father welcomes all his children
to his family through his Son;
Father giving his salvation,
life forever has been won.

Psalm 148
Praise God!
Praise God from heaven!
Praise God on the heights!
Praise God, all of you who are God’s messengers!
Praise God, all of you who comprise God’s heavenly forces!
Sun and moon, praise God!
All of you bright stars, praise God!
You highest heaven, praise God!
Do the same, you waters that are above the sky!
Let all of these praise God’s name
because God gave the command and they were created!
God set them in place always and forever.
God made a law that will not be broken.
Praise God from the earth,
you sea monsters and all you ocean depths!
Do the same, fire and hail, snow and smoke,
stormy wind that does what God says!
Do the same, you mountains, every single hill,
fruit trees, and every single cedar!
Do the same, you animals — wild or tame —
you creatures that creep along and you birds that fly!
Do the same, you kings of the earth and every single person,
you princes and every single ruler on earth!
Do the same, you young men — young women too! —
you who are old together with you who are young!
Let all of these praise God’s name
because only God’s name is high over all.
Only God’s majesty is over earth and heaven.
God raised the strength of their people,
the praise of all their faithful ones —
that’s the Israelites,
the people who are close to him.
Praise God!
Revelation 21:1–6
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud voice from the throne say, “Look! God’s dwelling is here with humankind. He will dwell with them, and they will be his peoples. God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more. There will be no mourning, crying, or pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look! I’m making all things new.” He also said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Then he said to me, “All is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will freely give water from the life-giving spring.
May the Spirit of God open our eyes to see, our ears to hear,
and our hearts to understand.
O, let the Son of God enfold you
with his Spirit and his love;
let him fill your heart and satisfy your soul;
O, let him have the things that hold you
and his Spirit, like a dove,
will descend upon your life and make you whole.
Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill our lives;
Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill our lives.
O come and sing this song with gladness
as your hearts are filled with joy;
lift your hands in sweet surrender to his name;
O, give him all your tears and sadness,
give him all your years of pain,
and you’ll enter into life in Jesus’ name.
Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill our lives;
Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill our lives.

Loving God,
we pray for the world..
God of love,
hear our prayer.
Gracious God,
we pray for the people..
God of grace,
hear our prayer.
Merciful God,
we pray for the earth..
God of grace,
hear our prayer.
And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying…
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.

Alternatively, there is an offering bowl near the lectern on the left-hand side as you exit the church.
You shall go out with joy
and be led forth in peace,
and the mountains and the hills
shall break forth in singing.
There’ll be shouts of joy,
and the trees of the fields
shall clap, shall clap their hands,
and the trees of the field shall clap their hands,
and the trees of the field shall clap their hands,
and the trees of the fields shall clap their hands,
and you’ll go out with joy.

As we leave this place today,
may you know the love of God,
may you hear the goodness of creation,
and may you see the peace that passes understanding
all around you.
Amen.
The Lord bless you,
bless you and keep you,
and make his face shine gently on you.
The Lord be gracious unto you.
Lift up his countenance on you
and give you peace,
forever give you peace.
