Welcome to Brougham Place Uniting Church.

We acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional carers of the land on which our church is built.

Opening Prayer

We sing: Sing of the Lord’s goodness

Sing of the Lord’s goodness, Father of all wisdom,

come to him and bless his name.

Mercy he has shown us, his love is forever,

faithful to the end of days.

Come then, all you nations,

sing of your Lord’s goodness

melodies of praise and thanks to God.

Ring out the Lord’s glory,

praise him with your music,

worship him and bless his name.

Power he has wielded, honour is his garment,

risen from the snares of death.

His word he has spoken, one bread he has broken,

new life he now gives to all.

Come then, all you nations,

Courage in our darkness, comfort in our sorrow,

Spirit of our God most high;

Children and Young People may go downstairs for Sunday School and Youth. Parents, you are welcome to join your young children in Sunday School if you feel they may need your assistance. Alternatively, you may wish for your child to remain with you for the duration of worship. Activity packs are available at the entrances.

Your decrees are wonderful;

therefore my soul keeps them.

The unfolding of your words gives light

and imparts understanding to the simple.

Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52

He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.”

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and reburied; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and caught fish of every kind; when it was full, they drew it ashore, sat down, and put the good into baskets but threw out the bad. So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous and throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

“Have you understood all this?” They answered,”Yes.” And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”

Christ plants his footsteps in the sea

Deep in unfathomable mines

of never-failing skill

to treasure up such bright designs,

that work the sovereign will.

You fearful saints, fresh courage take:

the clouds you so much dread

are big with mercy, and shall break

in blessings on your head.

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense

but trust Christ for his grace;

behind a frowning providence

there hides a smiling face.

God’s purposes will ripen fast,

unfolding every hour;

but sweet will be the flower.

Blind unbelief is sure to err,

and scan Christ’s work in vain;

And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying…

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial

and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours

now and forever. Amen.
