Welcome to Brougham Place Uniting Church.
We acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional carers of the land
on which our church is built.
As you wait for worship to begin, please turn
your phone to silent.
For Kaurna Country on which we gather today,
we give thanks.
For the Elders and communities,
past and present,
who walk these lands,
we pay our respects.
Come freedom and flourishing
to land, people, and culture.
The Secret (Pull Back the Veil) – Bell/Nairn
Welcome to worship today.
Welcome to this sacred place.
Welcome,
we who come with different stories,
different hopes and fears,
different needs and gifts.
Welcome,
we who arrive carrying ease,
and we who arrive carrying a burden.
Welcome,
we who are searching,
and we who are weary.
All are welcomed here,
as we gather in God’s presence.
Come, let us worship.
Creator God,
may we know your welcome here.
May we sense your spirit among us,
your love shaping our hearts,
and your peace settling our minds.
As we gather, help us to receive your grace,
and to recognise your presence among us.
Amen.
God welcomes all, strangers and friends;
God’s love is strong and it never ends. (x3)
Gracious God,
you come to us in unexpected ways
and through unexpected people,
yet there are times
when our welcome is cautious and selective:
There are times when we choose comfort over risk,
familiarity over faithfulness,
and control over trust.
There are times when we resist receiving from others,
and turn away from unsettling encounters.
Forgive us when we close our hearts
to the welcome you offer through one another.
Open us again to your grace,
and encourage us as we receive and share your love.
Silent reflection
Hear this good news:
God welcomes us with grace and compassion,
not because we have loved perfectly
but because God’s love comes first.
In Christ, we are forgiven,
held and renewed.
We are at peace
and called to share this peace with one another.
Thanks be to God,
Amen.
Creator God,
you have made all things good.
Your majesty can be seen in every mountain.
Your glory is visible in the oceans and streams.
Your goodness is written on the plains,
and your love is whispered through all that breathes.
Draw us together in wonder and gratitude,
so that our praise may rise
from hearts opened by your presence,
and our lives shaped
by the love you share among us.
Amen.
All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful –
the Lord God made them all.
The wildflowers in their beauty,
the mountain ranges tall,
the billabongs and rivers,
and friendly birds that call,
All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful –
the Lord God made them all.
The cold wind in the winter,
the bright, life-giving sun,
the ripe fruits in the garden –
he made them every one.
All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful –
the Lord God made them all.
The coloured walls of gorges,
the gum trees green and tall,
the rocks, and pools, and palm trees,
the sparkling waterfall,
All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful –
the Lord God made them all.
He gave us eyes to see them,
and lips that we might tell
how great is God Almighty
who has made all things well.
All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful –
the Lord God made them all.
The peace of our God be with you.
And also with you.

Raise Your Voices (Graham / Lovland)
How much longer will you forget me, LORD? Forever?
How much longer will you hide yourself from me?
How long must I endure trouble?
How long will sorrow fill my heart day and night?
How long will my enemies triumph over me?
Look at me, O LORD my God, and answer me.
Restore my strength; don’t let me die.
Don’t let my enemies say, “We have defeated him.”
Don’t let them gloat over my downfall.
I rely on your constant love;
I will be glad, because you will rescue me.
I will sing to you, O Lord,
because you have been good to me.
‘Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.’
May the Spirit of God open our eyes to see, our ears to hear,
and our hearts to understand.
Community of Christ,
who make the Cross your own,
live out your creed and risk your life
for God alone:
the God who wears your face,
to whom all worlds belong,
whose children are of every race
and every song.
Community of Christ,
look past the Church’s door
and see the refugee, the hungry,
and the poor.
Take hands with the oppressed,
the jobless in your street,
take towel and water, that you wash
your neighbour’s feet.
Community of Christ,
through whom the word must sound –
cry out for justice and for peace
the whole world round:
disarm the powers that war
and all that can destroy,
turn bombs to bread, and tears of
anguish into joy.
When menace melts away,
so shall God’s will be done,
the climate of the world be peace
and Christ its Sun;
our currency be love
and kindliness our law,
our food and faith be shared as one
for evermore.
And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying…
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.

God who sets us on a journey
To discover dream and grow
Lead us as You led Your people
In the desert long ago
Journey inward journey outward
Stir the spirit stretch the mind
Love for God and self and neighbour
Marks the way that Christ defined
Exploration brings new insights
Changes choices we must face
Give us wisdom in deciding
Mindful always of Your grace
Should we stumble lose our bearings
Find it hard to know what’s right
We regain our true direction
Focused on the Jesus light
End our longing for the old days
Grant the vision that we lack
Once we’ve started on this journey
There can be no turning back
Let us travel light discarding
Excess baggage from our past
Cherish only what’s essential
Choosing treasure that will last
When we set up camp and settle
To avoid love’s risk and pain
You disturb complacent comfort
Pull the tent pegs up again
Keep us travelling in the knowledge
You are always at our side
Give us courage for the journey
Christ our goal and Christ our guide
As you leave this place,
carry the assurance of God’s care
and the courage Christ gives.
Go as people welcomed
and called to welcome others.
May our shared life be shaped by compassion,
and may the Spirit lead us
into faithful love and witness.
Amen
May the God who provides go before you
may Christ the Living Water meet you on the road
and may the Spirit keep you in steadfast love.
Amen.
