Mary Philp – service of Thanksgiving

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of Mary Philp on Monday 12th of January 2026, she was 103.

Mother of Barbara Sibley, Mother-in-Law of Ric, Grandmother of Michael and Barbara, Paul and Karen, Jane and Brenton and seven great-grandchildren.

Mary grew up in a close-knit family in Port Adelaide attending the local Congregational Church.  She met her husband Alick when she was 18.

During the war, Mary trained as a teacher, finding a passion in deaf education.

As she approached her centenarian birthday, Mary shared, ‘I’ve lived an exceptional life, and never went without anything. Always support those in need if you can, and cherish the family you have – you only get one.’

We give thanks for the gift of her life. She will be truly missed.

A service of Thanksgiving will be held at Brougham Place Uniting Church on Tuesday, 20th January, at 11:00am (ACDT UTC+10:30). All are welcome.
