Prelude and Lighting of the Candles

Welcome

Call to Worship

How are we coming to worship today?
Are we lugging a load of cares and need a word of kindness?
Are we carrying baggage we know should be shed
and need an encouraging shove?

Are we finding the good things
and desire a place to give our gratitude and thanks?
Whatever the need, however we come, God is with us.

Prayer of Invocation

We Sing: Comfort, Comfort All My People TiS 647

Comfort, comfort all my people
with the comfort of my Word.
Speak it tender to my people:
all your sins are taken away.

  1. Though your tears be rivers running,
though your tears be an ocean full,
though you cry with the hurt of living:
    comfort, comfort.
    Every valley shall be lifted,
    every mountain shall be low,
every rough place will be smoother:
    comfort, comfort.

    Comfort, comfort all my people
with the comfort of my Word.
Speak it tender to my people:
all your sins are taken away.

  2. Though your eyes see only darkness,
though your eyes can see no light,
though your eyes see pain and sorrow:
    comfort, comfort.
Every night will have its morning,
every pain will have an end,
    every burden will be lightened:
    comfort, comfort.

    Comfort, comfort all my people
with the comfort of my Word.
Speak it tender to my people:
all your sins are taken away.

Prayer of Confession

Words of Assurance

We are God’s beloved people.
God’s desire for us is a life abundant,
free from heavy burdens, buoyant
and bolstered by grace.
Be assured that we are forgiven.
Thanks be to God. Amen.

Passing of the Peace

The peace of our God be with you.
And also with you.

Children’s Time

We Sing: Come On In

  1. Come on in! Take a seat!
There’s a place for you at the feast:
    for big and small,
    short and tall.
Come on in, take a seat!

  2. Come on in! Share the food!
Pass it all the way ’round the room.
    Here love abounds
    and friends are found.
Come on in, share the food!

  3. Come on in! Eat the bread!
There’s always enough to be shared.
    Ev’ryday things
    God’s love they bring.
Come on in, eat the bread!

  4. Come on in! Sip the wine!
    Of God’s good gifts it’s a sign.
    Give thanks and praise
    all of your days.
Come on in, sip the wine!

  5. Come on in! Say amen!
    We will eat together again.
    Now out we go,
    God’s love we’ll show.
    Come on in! Say amen!

Sermon Light and Easy

We Sing: Jesus Christ is Waiting TiS 665

  1. Jesus Christ is waiting,
    waiting in the streets;
    no-one is his neighbour,
    all alone he eats.
    Listen, Lord Jesus,
    I am lonely too.
    Make me, friend or stranger,
    fit to wait on you.

  2. Jesus Christ is raging,
    raging in the streets,
    where injustice spirals
    and real hope retreats.
    Listen, Lord Jesus,
    I am angry too.
    In the Kingdom’s causes
    let me rage with you.

  3. Jesus Christ is healing,
    healing in the streets;
    curing those who suffer,
    touching those he greets.
    Listen, Lord Jesus,
    I have pity too.
    Let my care be active,
    healing just like you.

  4. Jesus Christ is dancing,
    dancing in the streets,
    where each sign of hatred
    he, with love, defeats.
    Listen, Lord Jesus,
    I should triumph too.
    Where good conquers evil
    let me dance with you.

  5. Jesus Christ is calling,
    calling in the streets,
    ‘Who will join my journey?
    I will guide their feet.’
    Listen, Lord Jesus,
    let my fears be few.
    Walk one step before me;
    I will follow you.

Prayers of the People

We Sing: Invitation ATAR 598

  1. God has laid a feasting table.
All her guests are gathered round.
From the highways and the byways
all the lost have now been found.
    When we hear the invitation
will we lay our burdens down?

  2. At this table all are welcome.
No one need be left behind.
God is greater than our difference.
Christ can see where we are blind.
    When we hear the invitation
will we love all human kind?

  3. God is crying out for justice.
Christ is weeping in the street.
When will be the time for laughter?
When will all have food to eat?
    When we hear the invitation
will we make God’s will complete?

Celebrating Holy Communion

Setting of the Table

Great Prayer of Thanksgiving

May God be with you.
And also with you.

Lift up your hearts!
We lift them up to our God.

Let us give thanks to God our Creator.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

… and so we raise our voices,
together with heaven and earth,
your people throughout all time and in all places,
and all of creation, saying:
Holy, holy, holy God, of all creation and life,
Heaven and earth are full of your glory,
Hosanna in the highest!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of God.
Hosanna in the highest!

The Lord’s Prayer

And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying…

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin
against us.
Save us in the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.

Breaking of the Bread

The Communion

Prayer After Communion

We Sing: We Will Love ATFG 586

We will walk with you at the edges,
we will die with you on the crossroads,
we will live in your dangerous places,
we will love.
We will risk with you taking chances,
we will stand with you facing evil,
we will live in your dangerous places,
we will love.

  1. Come Lord Jesus Christ hear our prayer,
come now living friend please draw near.
Alone, we feel unsure and so afraid.
Calling us to live by your grace,
calling us to leave all that’s safe.
Our lives we choose to lose
    so you may save.

We will walk with you at the edges,
we will die with you on the crossroads,
we will live in your dangerous places,
    we will love.
We will risk with you taking chances,
we will stand with you facing evil,
we will live in your dangerous places,
    we will love.

  2. Stepping out we call on your name,
knowing you have healed all our shame.
Our God, your precious love has made us whole.
Gifting us with power to set free,
    Holy Spirit, use even me.
    Renew all that I am
    so I may see.

We will walk with you at the edges,
we will die with you on the crossroads,
we will live in your dangerous places,
    we will love.
We will risk with you taking chances,
we will stand with you facing evil,
we will live in your dangerous places,
    we will love.
