Call to Worship

God is here – present though we are separated;
With us as we feel the absence and loss of the usual,
Present in our searching,
in our questions and uncertainty,
Come and find God here.

God is here – present in this journey on an unfamiliar road,
on this untrodden path and in our wandering and wondering,
comfort in the unlikely and uncommon;
Come and find God here.

We Sing: While Morning Still is Breaking TiS 104

  1. While morning still is breaking
    and day replaces night,
    beneath God’s care awaking
    we thank him for new light.
    We thank him that he calls us
    to life and health anew;
    whatever now befalls us
    his care will still be true.

  2. O Israel’s guardian, hear us,
    watch over us this day;
    in all we do be near us.
    For others, too, we pray;
    to you we would commend them,
    our church, our youth, our land;
    direct them and defend them
    when dangers are at hand.

  3. O grant us peace and gladness,
    give us our daily bread,
    shield us from grief and sadness,
    on us your blessings shed.
    Grant that our whole behaviour
    in truth and righteousness
    may praise you, Lord, our Saviour,
    whose holy name we bless.

  4. You are our vine: O nourish
    your branches, so that we
    may grow in you and flourish
    and ever fruitful be;
    your Spirit pour within us,
    and let the gifts of grace
    to those good actions win us
    that best may show your praise.

Prayer of Confession

Jesus Christ, hear our confessions this day, we pray.
When we become absorbed in our own concerns
and forget to look for your presence,
forgive us, Jesus Christ.

When we become fearful of what lies ahead
and give in to our longing to walk a well-worn path
rather than respond to your call to us to see
what is right in front of our eyes,
forgive us, Jesus Christ.

When we see only confusion and questions
and forget to see your ways of wisdom,
forgive us, Jesus Christ.

Draw us back to you, help us to recognise you
on the path on which we travel.

Words of Assurance

God has never left God’s people abandoned.
God is with us on the journey
and Christ is present with us on the way.
We are forgiven, nurtured in freedom.
Thanks be to God.

Passing of the Peace

The peace of our God be with you.
And also with you.

Prayers of the People

The Lord’s Prayer

And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying…

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin
against us.
Save us in the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.

We Sing: Ageless God Tune: Hyfrydol TiS 217 (i)

  1. Ageless God of boundless wonder,
    endless source of peerless grace
    who, to shatter speculation,
    came incarnate face to face;
    you we praise almighty Maker,
    parent of humanity,
    power behind the powers we cherish,
    Lord of life as life should be.

  2. None among us stood attentive
    when you brought the world to birth;
    nor can any claim full knowledge
    of the future states of earth.
    Fascinated, still we struggle
    to make sense of what has been,
    and with differing dreams imagine
    what, as yet, remains unseen.

  3. Each idea still gestating,
    each conviction in its youth,
    each encounter, each engagement,
    each impassioned search for truth –
    These we offer, not for blessing
    but for shaping to your will
    here, good Lord, inspire amaze us,
    fire our insight, fuse our skill.

  4. Train our science to be servant
    of the needs we must perceive;
    teach our intellects, where blinded,
    that to see we must believe;
    in our politics prevent us
    from confusing means and ends;
    and through faith and doubt direct us
    to pursue what Christ intends.

Sending Forth and Benediction

We Sing: May the Feet of God Walk With You TiS 779

May the feet of God walk with you,
and his hand hold you tight.
May the eye of God rest on you,
and his ear hear your cry.
May the smile of God be for you,
and his breath give you life.
May the Child of God grow in you,
and his love bring you home.
