Prelude

Welcome and Lighting of the Candles

Call to Worship

Come and worship:
the doubters and the questioners,
the ones who hover to observe, feeling unsure,
the ones who skip and dance and enter with joyful step,
the ones who want proof and evidence,
and the ones who hold truth with firm clasp.
However you are – come.
God calls us to worship.

Prayer of Invocation

We Sing: Faith Will Not Grow From Words Alone TiS 691

  1. Faith will not grow from words alone,
    from proofs provided, scripture known;
our faith must feel its way about,
and live with question-marks and doubt.

  2. The pattern Jesus showed, we share:
life comes through death, hope through despair.
God is made known in brokenness,
and faith feeds on God’s emptiness.

  3. The church still tells how Jesus came
through death to glorious life again
    the strangest story! Yet, maybe,
our faith will thrive on mystery.

  4. Faith takes the little that we know,
and calls for hope, and tells us: Go!
    Love and take courage, come what may;
Christ will be with us on the way.

Prayer of Confession

Forgive us when we prefer to be right and certain,
when we speak with arrogance or are quick to judge others.
Help us to hear your call to relationship with you.

Forgive us when we forget that faith is so much more than ideas.
Help us to hear your call to relationship with you.

Forgive us when we are envious of the faith of others.
Help us to hear your call to relationship with you.

Words of Assurance

Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
Jesus did not ask for perfection, nor a checklist of beliefs.
He offered peace and gave the gift of relationship.
It is with this trust that he sends us too.
Be assured – whatever faith we have – it is enough.
Thanks be to God.

Passing of the Peace

The peace of our God be with you.
And also with you.

Sermon Closed In, but do not fear

We Sing: You Are Mine AOV Book, 2, 2

  1. I will come to you in the silence,
I will lift you from all your fear.
    You will hear my voice,
I claim you as my choice,
be still and know I am here

Do not be afraid, I am with you.
I have called you each by name.
    Come and follow me,
    I will bring you home,
I love you and you are mine.

  2. I am hope for all who are hopeless,
I am eyes for all who long to see.
In the shadows of the night,
    I will be your light,
    come and rest in me.

Do not be afraid, I am with you.
I have called you each by name.
    Come and follow me,
    I will bring you home,
I love you and you are mine.

  3. I am strength for all the despairing,
healing for the ones who dwell in shame.
    All the blind will see,
the lame will all run free,
and all will know my name.

Do not be afraid, I am with you.
I have called you each by name.
    Come and follow me,
    I will bring you home,
I love you and you are mine.

  4. I am the word that leads all to freedom,
I am the peace the world cannot give.
    I will call your name,
    embracing all your pain,
stand up, now walk, and live!

Do not be afraid, I am with you.
I have called you each by name.
    Come and follow me,
    I will bring you home,
I love you and you are mine.

Prayers of the People

The Lord’s Prayer

And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying…

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin
against us.
Save us in the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.

Loved being iwth you in worship this morning. Since we are involved in recording the Barmera Uniting Church worship, it’s good to visit somewhere else. Deep Stillness encouraged the tears to flow. Blessings.
