Introit: When He Comes Back

Call to Worship

Into the realm of the divine we come,
encountering mystery,
encountering Spirit beyond flesh,
called and welcomed.
Here we have work to do:
to worship,
to listen to holy words,
and to honour the one who is waiting for us.

Prayer

We Sing: In the Love of God We Gather

  1. In the love of God we gather,
    wooing, fulsome, strong and free.
Through the veil of faith we enter
    drawn and held by Mystery.
Wounded by the trials of living,
    buoyed by hope that will not end;
    We, your people of compassion,
lift our eyes and rise again.

  2. T’ward the light of Christ we open,
searching for his paths of peace.
    Hearts affected, grace resurgent
    lived and breathed creatively:
    Parent, poet, teacher, farmer –
calls to share the Gift made known:
    Currents of the deepest river,
    coursing outward to the sea.

  3. Through the beauty of the spirit
by a love that moves the stars,
we will find our truth and bearing
in God’s love-song for this world.
    Justice, mercy, peace and daring;
these shall be our heart’s desire!
    Folded into acts of service,
    faith refined through holy fire.

Stewardship – Connected by Grace

God’s desire is for relationship –
to know and be known.
God continually reaches out to us.
We are connected by grace.
We gather together
to share in the journey of faith;
knit together as the Body of Christ.
We are connected by grace.

Sermon

We Sing: City of God

Please scroll down past the words for the musical score

Let us build the city of God
May our tears be turned into dancing
For the Lord, our light and our love,
has turned the night into day!

  1. Awake from your slumber
    Arise from your sleep!
    A new day is dawning
    for all those weep
    The people in darkness
    have seen a great light
    The Lord of our longing
    has conquered the night

Let us build the city of God
May our tears be turned into dancing
For the Lord, our light and our love,
has turned the night into day!

  2. We are sons of the morning;
    we are daughters of day.
The one who has loved us
    has brightened our way.
    The Lord of all kindness
    has called us to be
    a light for his people
    to set their hearts free

Let us build the city of God
May our tears be turned into dancing
For the Lord, our light and our love,
has turned the night into day!

Prayers of the People

The Lord’s Prayer

And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying…

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin
against us.
Save us in the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.

We Sing: God Gives Us a Future

  1. God gives us a future,
    daring us to go
    into dreams and dangers
    on a path unknown.
    We will face tomorrow
    in the Spirit’s power,
we will let God change us,
    for new life starts now.

  2. We must leave behind us
    sins of yesterday,
    for God’s new beginning
    is a better way.
    Fear and doubt and habit
    must not hold us back:
    God gives hope, and insight,
    and the strength we lack.

  3. Holy Spirit, teach us
    how to read the signs,
    how to meet the challenge
    of our troubled times.
    Love us into action,
    stir us into prayer,
till we choose God’s life, and
    find our future there.
