Musical Invitation: Women’s WorkRosie O’Reilly

The Acclamation

The stone was rolled away.
He was not there,
for Christ is risen!
Christ is risen indeed!

Fanfare: Fanfare for the ResurrectionSteven Scott

We Sing: Christ the Lord is Risen Today

  1. Christ the Lord is risen today:
    Let the whole creation say:
    Raise your joys and triumphs high;
    Sing now, heaven, and earth reply:

  2. Love’s redeeming work is done;
    fought the fight, the battle won;
    vain the stone, the watch, the seal:
    Christ has burst the gates of hell.

  3. Lives again our glorious king;
    where, O death, is now your sting?
    Once he died our souls to save;
    where your victory, O grave?

  4. Soar we now where Christ has led,
    following our exalted Head;
    made like him, like him we rise:
    ours the cross, the grave, the skies.

Call to Worship

God of new life and hope,
of forgiveness and restoration
and new beginnings,
we meet on this Easter morning
to celebrate the astonishing good news that Jesus,
whom everyone thought to be dead and gone,
is alive and with us still;
that the one whom everyone thought
had been defeated has defeated death itself.

We come rejoicing,
for our eyes have been opened
our vision reframed.

Come, let us worship in gladness!

Prayers of the People

We Sing: Christ has Risen

  1. Christ has risen while earth slumbers,
    Christ has risen where hope died
    as he said and as he promised,
    as we doubted and denied.
    Let the moon embrace the blessing;
    let the sun sustain the cheer;
    let the world confirm the rumour:
    Christ is risen, God is here!

  2. Christ has risen for the people
    whom he loved and died to save;
    Christ has risen for the women
    bringing flowers to grace his grave.
    Christ has risen for disciples
    huddled in an upstairs room.
    He whose word inspired creation
    can’t be silenced by the tomb.

  3. Christ has risen to companion
    former friends who fear the night,
    sensing loss and limitation
    where their faith had once burned bright.
    They bemoan what is no longer,
    they expect no hopeful sign,
    till Christ ends their conversation,
    breaking bread and sharing wine.

  4. Christ has risen and forever
    lives to challenge and to change
    all whose lives are messed or mangled,
    all who find religion strange.
    Christ is risen. Christ is present,
    making us what he has been –
    evidence of transformation
    in which God is known and seen.

Celebrating Holy Communion

Setting of the Table

Great Prayer of Thanksgiving

May God be with you.
And also with you.

Lift up your hearts!
We lift them up to our God.

Let us give thanks to God our Creator.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

… and so we raise our voices,
together with heaven and earth,
your people throughout all time and in all places,
and all of creation, saying:
Holy, holy, holy God, of all creation and life,
Heaven and earth are full of your glory,
Hosanna in the highest!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of God.
Hosanna in the highest!

The Lord’s Prayer

…And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin
against us.
Save us in the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.

Breaking of the Bread

The Communion

Prayer After Communion

We Sing: Shout for Joy!

  1. Shout for joy! The Lord has let us feast;
    Heaven’s own fare has fed the last and least;
    Christ’s own peace is shared again on earth;
    God the Spirit fills us with new worth.

  2. No more doubting, no more senseless dread:
    God’s good self has graced our wine and bread;
    all the wonder heaven has kept in store,
    now is ours to keep for evermore.

  3. Celebrate with saints who dine on high,
    witnesses that love can never die.
    ‘Hallelujah!’ – thus their voices ring:
    nothing less in gratitude we bring.

  4. Praise the Maker, praise the Maker’s Son,
    praise the Spirit – three yet ever one,
    praise the God whose food and friends avow
    heav’n starts here! The Kingdom beckons now!
