God of Grace and God of Glory by William Owen
Call to Worship based on Hosea 11
Leader: Come to the One who calls us by name,
the One who cares for, and comforts us:
All: the Holy One is in our midst.
Leader: Come to the One who comes to us,
the One who bends down to meet us here:
All: the Holy One is in our midst.
Leader: God is our treasure and our home,
the inheritance of the faithful:
All: the Holy One is in our midst.
Leader: Come to the One who is worthy of praise,
the One who rescues and redeems us:
All: the Holy One is in our midst.
We Sing: God is Here Today
God is here today;
as certain as the air I breathe,
as certain as the morning sun that rises,
as certain when I sing you’ll hear my song.
Prayer
Passing of the Peace
The peace of our God be with you.
And also with you.

We Sing: Choose Kindness
When you have a choice to make,
when there are two paths to take,
what will you choose to guide your way,
decisions you make ev’ryday?
Choose kindness, choose tenderness,
choose patience, choose love.
Choose mercy, choose empathy,
walk humbly with your God.
Choose justice, choose faithfulness,
choose wisdom, choose grace.
Choose goodness, choose gentleness,
God’s light will guide your way.
Children may go downstairs for Sunday School. Parents, you are welcome to join your child in Sunday School if you feel your child may need your assistance. Alternatively, you may wish for your child to remain with you for the duration of worship. Activity packs are available from the Welcome Desks.
Choral Anthem
Be Thou My Vision – Rosemary Nairn
Scripture Reading: Luke 12:13-21
Someone in the crowd said to him, ‘Teacher, tell my brother to divide
the family inheritance with me.’ But he said to him, ‘Friend, who set me
to be a judge or arbitrator over you?’ And he said to them, ‘Take care!
Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not
consist in the abundance of possessions.’ Then he told them a parable:
‘The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself,
“What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?” Then he said,
“I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and
there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul,
Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be
merry.” But God said to him, “You fool! This very night your life is
being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they
be?” So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are
not rich towards God.’
The Gospel of Christ, light of the world.
Thanks be to God.
Sermon
We Sing: Touch the Earth Lightly
Touch the earth lightly,
use the earth gently,
nourish the life of the world in our care:
Gift of great wonder,
ours to surrender,
trust for the children tomorrow will bear.
We who endanger,
who create hunger,
agents of death for all creatures that live.
We who would foster
clouds of disaster,
God of our planet, forestall and forgive!
Let there be greening,
birth from the burning,
water that blesses and air that is sweet,
health in God’s garden,
hope in God’s children,
regeneration that peace will complete.
God of all living,
God of all loving,
God of the seedling, the snow and the sun,
teach us, deflect us,
Christ re-connect us,
using us gently and making us one.

Prayers of the People
…And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
We Sing: Sent by the Lord Am I
Sent by the Lord am I;
my hands are ready now
to make the earth the place
in which the kingdom comes.
Sent by the Lord am I;
my hands are ready now
to make the earth the place
in which the kingdom comes.
The angels cannot change
a world of hurt and pain
into a world of love,
of justice and of peace.
The task is mine to do,
to set it really free.
O help me to obey,
help me to do your will.
