Call to Worship

Listen up sisters and brothers!
We are listening.

We are to be slow to speak.
We will be slow to anger also.

We are to do more than listen.
We are to practise what we hear.

What is it that God wants us to hear?
We will take care of those around us
and live in God’s ways.

Come as we worship our faithful God
We come before God
with open ears and hearts.

from the Letter of James

We Sing: Gather Us In

  1. Here in this place new light is streaming,
    now is the darkness vanished away,
    see, in this space, our fears and our dreamings,
    brought here to you in the light of this day.

    Gather us in, the lost and forsaken;
    gather us in, the blind and the lame;
    call to us now, and we shall awaken,
    we shall arise at the sound of our name.

  2. We are the young, our lives are a mystery;
    we are the old, who yearn for your face;
    we have been sung throughout all of history,
    called to be light to the whole human race.

    Gather us in, the rich and the haughty;
    gather us in, the proud and the strong;
    give us a heart so meek and so lowly,
    give us the courage to enter the song.

  3. Not in the dark of buildings confining,
    not in some heaven light years away,
    but here in this space, the new light is shining,
    now is the kingdom, now is the day.

    Gather us in, and hold us forever;
    gather us in, and make us your own;
    gather us in, all peoples together,
    fire of love in our flesh and our bone.

Sermon

We Sing: I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light

  1. I want to walk as a child of the light,
    I want to follow Jesus.
    God set the stars to give light to the world:
    the star of my life is Jesus.

    In him there is no darkness at all;
    the night and the day are both alike.
    The lamb is the light of the city of God;
    shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.

  2. I want to see the brightness of God,
    I want to look at Jesus;
    clear sun of righteousness, shine on my path
    and show me the way to the Father.

    In him there is no darkness at all;
    the night and the day are both alike.
    The lamb is the light of the city of God;
    shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.

  3. I’m looking for the coming of Christ;
    I want to be with Jesus.
    When we have run with patience the race
    we shall know the joy of Jesus.

    In him there is no darkness at all;
    the night and the day are both alike.
    The lamb is the light of the city of God;
    shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.

Prayers of the People

…And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying:

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be Your name,

your Kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in Heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins,

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial

and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power

and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

We Sing: Go to the World!

  1. Go to the world! Go into all the earth.
    Go preach the cross where Christ renews life’s worth,
    baptizing as the sign of our rebirth.
    Alleluia! Alleluia!

  2. Go to the world! Go into ev’ry place.
    Go live the Word of God’s redeeming grace.
    Go seek God’s presence in each time and space.
    Alleluia! Alleluia!

  3. Go to the world! Go struggle, bless and pray;
    the nights of tears give way to joyous day,
    As servant Church, you follow Christ’s own way.
    Alleluia! Alleluia!

  4. Go to the world! Go as the ones I send,
    for I am with you ’til the age shall end,
    When all the hosts of glory cry “Amen!”
    Alleluia! Alleluia!
