September 27, 2020 | Season of Creation 4

We acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional carers of the land on which our church is built.

Season of Creation 2020

Each year, the Brougham Place Community celebrates the Season of Creation. This is a time where we explore an eco-theology: our relationship with the Creator, our part in all of creation, our role as co-creators with God.

This Season of Creation our theme is To Bless and Be Blessed. You are invited to offer gratitude for the gifts of creation and also to be a gift to creation – to serve and protect it. You are invited to see more deeply the blessings of creation and to act to bless creation. This time in our history requires us to step up and hear God’s call to be caretakers, to love and serve creation more than ever before.

During 2020, COVID has resulted in significant travel restrictions. Many travel plans have been cancelled, changed, delayed. This has brought significant grief for many. It has also brought an opportunity to notice the beauty that surrounds us closer to home. People have walked, explored and appreciated our neighbourhoods and national parks in new and different ways. Members of BPUC have contributed photographs to share that have been collected from such times.

As part of the Season of Creation you are invited to share in Spiritual Disciplines during the week. These are available online and in hard copy form. These are invitations to be blessed and to bless creation, to notice and pay attention to that which surrounds us.

May this be a season joy and blessing, challenge and renewal, hope and new life.

Order of Service

Welcome and Lighting of Candles

We Sing: God is Here Today

God is here today;
as certain as the air I breathe,
as certain as the morning sun that rises,
as certain when I sing you’ll hear my song.

Call to Worship

We gather on the lands of the Kaurna
We gather to meet together and worship God
We gather with the trees and grass
We gather to meet together and worship God
We gather with the bugs and beetles
We gather to meet together and worship God
We gather with the magpies and the possums
We gather to meet together and worship God
We gather as a community
We gather to meet together and worship God

Opening Prayer

We Sing: Sacred Ground

  1. I’m goin’ to sink my feet in sacred ground,
    sink in sacred ground.
    I’m goin’ to sink my feet in sacred ground,
    Oh, God is here.

  2. I’m goin’ to listen to that sacred voice…

  3. I’m goin’ to tread gently on sacred earth…

  4. ‘m goin’ to rest my soul in sacred home…

Prayers of the People

The Lord’s Prayer

And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying…

We Sing: Joyful, Joyful

  1. Joyful, joyful, we adore you,
    God of glory, God of love;
    hearts unfold like flowers before you
    opening to the sun above.
    Melt the clouds of sin and sadness,
    drive the dark of doubt away;
    giver of immortal gladness,
    fill us with the light of day.

  2. All your works with joy surround you,
    earth and heav’n reflect your rays,
    stars and angels sing around you,
    centre of unbroken praise.
    Field and forest, vale and mountain,
    flowery meadow, flashing sea,
    singing bird and flowing fountain
    call to praise you joyfully

  3. You are giving and forgiving,
    ever blessing, ever blest,
    well-spring of the joy of living,
    ocean-depth of happy rest.
    You our Father, Christ our brother,
    all are yours who live in love;
    teach us how to love each other,
    lift us to your joy above.

Sending Forth and Benediction

We Sing: For You Deep Stillness

For you, deep stillness of the silent inland;
for you, deep blue of the desert skies;
for you, flame red of the rocks and stones;
for you, sweet water from hidden springs.

From the edges, seek the heartlands,
and when you’re burnt by the journey,
may the cool winds of the hovering Spirit
soothe and replenish you.
In the name of Christ,
In the name of Christ.
