Call to Worship

We gather to encounter the goodness and grace of God, to draw closer to Christ, and to listen for the guidance and wisdom of the Spirit.
Let us worship God the creator,
Christ the saviour of the world,
and the Spirit – bringer of life.

Prayer

We Sing: Eternal Spirit, Shine in My Heart

  1. Eternal light, shine in my heart;
    eternal hope, lift up my eyes;
    eternal power, be my support;
    eternal wisdom, make me wise.

  2. Eternal life, raise me from death;
    eternal brightness, help me see;
    eternal Spirit, give me breath;
    eternal Saviour, come to me;

  3. until by your most costly grace,
    invited by your holy word,
    at last I come before your face
    to know you, my eternal God.

Rejoice the Lord is King – C Wesley

Scripture Reading: Luke 18:9-14

Jesus also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and regarded others with contempt: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, was praying thus, ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all my income.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his home justified rather than the other; for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Sermon

We Sing: Create in us a Clean Heart

Create in us a clean heart, O God.
Renew within us a right spirit.
Cast us not away from your presence, O Lord,
and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
Restore to us fullness of joy,
the joy that springs from your salvation.
Lighten our minds, shelter our lives
with your Spirit free.

Prayers of the People

The Lord’s Prayer

And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying…

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be Your name,

your Kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in Heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins,

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us in the time of trial

and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours

now and forever. Amen.

We Sing: Where the Spirit is, there’s Freedom

Refrain:
Where the Spirit is there’s freedom.
Where the Spirit is, there is life!

  1. Not by the world can our freedom be nourished,
    not by our things, only by Spirit.
    practise, my children, to live by the Spirit,
    drop all your masks, take freedom’s clothing!

    Where the Spirit is there’s freedom.
    Where the Spirit is, there is life!

  2. Heaven on earth, here we live, free to
    love and to share, carried by joy,
    Practise, my children, to live by the Spirit,
    daring today to taste God’s future.

    Where the Spirit is there’s freedom.
    Where the Spirit is, there is life!

  3. Wounds will be healed, eyes will be opened,
    imaging God, reflecting Jesus.
    Practise, my children, to live by the Spirit,
    heaven is here, time made eternal.

    Where the Spirit is there’s freedom.
    Where the Spirit is, there is life!
