We Sing: Spirit of DreamingAll Together 607

  1. Spirit of truth, come to us now,
    breathe your word into us.
Plant in our hearts your wisdom and love,
    speak your kindness through us.
Spirit of dreaming come, make of your people one.
Spirit of truth, enter our dreaming now.

  2. Spirit of grace, come to us now,
    break into our silence.
Nourish our hearts with healing and joy,
sing your love song through us.
Spirit of dreaming come, make of your people one.
Spirit of grace, enter our dreaming now.

    Spirit of hope restore us,
    go before us,
lead us through famine and feast.
    Spirit of faith uplift us,
    take and gift us for
loving the last and the least.

  3. Spirit of light, come to us now,
    shine into our darkness.
Bring to our hearts your longing for life,
    kindle peace between us.
Spirit of dreaming come, make of your people one.
Spirit of light, enter our dreaming now.

Sermon

We Sing: Spirit Brooding

Solo: Spirit, brooding in the silence,
stirs the emptiness to light.
Soundless booms disturb the void,
and captured mass explodes in flight.
Spirit, still you hover broody,
still this rock turns by your might,
nurtured by the heart of wisdom,
cherished at the source of life.

Choir: Holy Dove descends on Jordan,
sacred water soaked in light.
Heaven thunders, “My beloved!”
Jesus bathed in God’s delight.
Spirit’s wealth of love and beauty,
Spirit’s healing comfort shared.
Word of God, gentle and mighty,
Spirit born and Spirit fed.

All: Spirit brooding through the city,
hovers over those who wait;
like a drawstring brings them closer,
sends a sign beyond debate.
Tongues of fire and wind of tempest,
words beyond all knowing raised.
Celebration and vocation,
in this harmony of praise.

All: When we sense this world a-stirring,
waiting people lift their eyes.
Wind and flame about us whirling,
revelation undisguised.
Broody Spirit, nurture wisdom,
gift your people yet again.
Rouse, enthuse, disturb empow’r us,
as you have since time began.

Prayers of the People

let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours now and forever.  Amen.

We Sing: Great God, Your Spirit Like the WindTiS 416

  1. Great God, your Spirit, like the wind
unseen but shaking things we see
    will never leave us undisturbed,
fulfil our dreams, or set us free,
until we turn from faithless fear
and prove the promise of your grace,
in justice, peace and daily bread,
with joy for all the human race.

  2. Lord, shake us with the force of love,
    to rouse us from our dreadful sleep;
remove our hearts of stone, and give
new hearts of flesh, to break and weep
for all your children in distress
and dying for the wealth we keep.
Help us prevent, while we have time,
the blighted harvest greed must reap.

  3. And then, in your compassion, give
your Spirit like the gentle rain,
    creating fertile ground from which
    your peace and justice spring like grain;
    until your love is satisfied,
with all creation freed from pain,
and all your children live to praise
your will fulfilled, your presence plain.
