Prelude

Wayfaring Stranger by Mark Hayes, arr Marvin Gaspard

Welcome

Lighting of the Candles and Introit

Call to Worship

Hold a mirror before us, O Lord. What image of ourselves is reflected back?

Who do we see in the mirror?

A version of who we are that is photoshopped to look better than it is, or an image of who we are that fails to show the glory of the true created potential behind the grime of fault and weakness?

It is so hard to see that we share similarities with the characters of the bible who are flawed, yet also share in likeness with them the fact that nonetheless we are eternally under your love and mercy.

Today, let us find integrity in self-understanding,
and let us find comfort in the knowledge of your love.

Prayer

We Sing: Spirit of Dreaming

  1. Spirit of truth, come to us now,
    breathe your word into us.
Plant in our hearts your wisdom and love,
    speak your kindness through us.
Spirit of dreaming come, make of your people one.
Spirit of truth, enter our dreaming now.

  2. Spirit of grace, come to us now,
    break into our silence.
Nourish our hearts with healing and joy,
sing your love song through us.
Spirit of dreaming come, make of your people one.
Spirit of grace, enter our dreaming now.

    Spirit of hope restore us,
    go before us,
lead us through famine and feast.
    Spirit of faith uplift us,
    take and gift us for
loving the last and the least.

  3. Spirit of light, come to us now,
    shine into our darkness.
Bring to our hearts your longing for life,
    kindle peace between us.
Spirit of dreaming come, make of your people one.
Spirit of light, enter our dreaming now.

Sermon

We Sing: Take This Moment, Sign, And Space

  1. Take this moment, sign, and space,
    take my friends around.
Here among us make the place
    where your love is found.

  2. Take the time to call my name,
    take the time to mend
who I am and what I’ve been,
    all I’ve failed to tend.

  3. Take the tiredness of my days,
    take my past regret,
    letting your forgiveness touch
    all I can’t forget.

  4. Take the little child in me,
    scared of growing old.
Help them here to find their worth,
    made in Christ’s own mould.

  5. Take my talents, take my skills,
    take what’s yet to be.
Let my life be yours, and yet,
    let it still be me.

Prayers of the People

…And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying:

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be Your name,

your Kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in Heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins,

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial

and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power

and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

We Sing: Love Divine, All Loves Excelling

  1. Love divine, all loves excelling,
joy of heaven, to earth come down,
fix in us thy humble dwelling,
    all thy faithful mercies crown:
    Jesus, thou art all compassion,
    pure unbounded love thou art;
    visit us with thy salvation,
    enter every trembling heart.

  2. Come, almighty to deliver,
    let us all thy life receive;
    suddenly return, and never,
    never more thy temples leave:
thee we would be always blessing,
serve thee as thy hosts above,
pray, and praise thee, without ceasing,
    glory in thy perfect love.

  3. Finish then thy new creation,
pure and spotless let us be,
let us see thy great salvation,
    perfectly restored in thee:
    changed from glory into glory,
till in heaven we take our place,
till we cast our crowns before thee,
lost in wonder, love and praise.
