Traditional Spiritual

Call to Worship

People of God,
what shall we offer this day
for all God’s goodness?
Let us offer the love of our hearts,
the service of our hands,
and openness to Christ’s way.

Prayer

We Sing: Let All Creation Dance

  1. Let all creation dance
    in energies sublime,
    as order turns with chance,
    unfolding space and time,
    for nature’s art
    in glory grows,
    and newly shows
    God’s mind and heart.

  2. God’s breath each force unfurls,
    igniting from a spark
    expanding starry swirls,
    with whirlpools dense and dark.
    Though moon and sun
    seem mindless things,
    each orbit sings:
    ‘Your will be done.’

  3. Our own amazing earth,
    with sunlight, cloud and storms
    and life’s abundant growth
    in lovely shapes and forms,
    is made for praise,
    a fragile whole,
    and from its soul
    heaven’s music plays.

  4. Lift heart and soul and voice:
    in Christ all praises meet
    and nature shall rejoice
    as all is made complete.
    In hope be strong,
    all life befriend
    and kindly tend
    creation’s song.

Sermon

We Sing: Take This Moment

  1. Take this moment, sign, and space,
    take my friends around.
Here among us make the place
    where your love is found.

  2. Take the time to call my name,
    take the time to mend
who I am and what I’ve been,
    all I’ve failed to tend.

  3. Take the tiredness of my days,
    take my past regret,
    letting your forgiveness touch
    all I can’t forget.

  4. Take the little child in me,
    scared of growing old.
Help them here to find their worth,
    made in Christ’s own mould.

  5. Take my talents, take my skills,
    take what’s yet to be.
Let my life be yours, and yet,
    let it still be me.

Prayers of the People

The Lord’s Prayer

And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying…

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin
against us.
Save us in the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.

Recognition of New Members, Members-in-Association and Friends

The minister addresses the congregation:
Will you welcome these persons
into the fellowship of this congregation,
and will you offer them
your friendship and support?
We will

We Sing: Sent By the Lord Am I

Sent by the Lord am I;
my hands are ready now
to make the earth the place
in which the kingdom comes.
Sent by the Lord am I;
my hands are ready now
to make the earth the place
in which the kingdom comes.

The angels cannot change
a world of hurt and pain
into a world of love,
of justice and of peace.
The task is mine to do,
to set it really free.
O help me to obey,
help me to do your will.
