Prelude

Welcome

Lighting of the Candles and Introit

Peace with the Father

Call to Worship

Creator, Redeemer, Guide.
Wonderful mystery.
Trinity.
We come in awe today,
amazed and bewildered by your love for us.
We offer this time of worship
and seek to know you more.

Opening Prayer

We Sing: God of Creation

  1. God of Creation, gentle life-giver,
    present at birth and all through our days;
    author of sunrise, song in the night sky
    here in this place, we offer our praise.

  2. Jesus, companion, teacher and healer,
    friend of the grieving, suffering, the poor
    stand with your people, whisper among us
    promise of mercy, goodness for all.

  3. Spirit of comfort, blow through creation,
    stir up new life, breathe peace through our world.
    Healer of hearts, and hope for tomorrow,
    weave all our sorrows into new dawn.

  4. Here we give thanks for life in its fullness,
    blessings received, your gifts to us all.
    Make us a people filled by compassion,
    selflessly giving, serving your world.

Prayer of Praise and Adoration – Psalm 8

Part 1: Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Part 2: You have set your glory
in the heavens.
Part 1: Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
Part 2: When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what are human beings that you are mindful of them,
mortals that you care for them?
Part 1: You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
Part 2: all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
All: Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Passing of the Peace

The peace of our God be with you.
And also with you.

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31

Does not wisdom call,
and does not understanding raise her voice?
On the heights, beside the way,
at the crossroads she takes her stand;
beside the gates in front of the town,
at the entrance of the portals she cries out:
‘To you, O people, I call,
and my cry is to all that live.

The Lord created me at the beginning of his work,
the first of his acts of long ago.
Ages ago I was set up,
at the first, before the beginning of the earth.
When there were no depths I was brought forth,
when there were no springs abounding with water.
Before the mountains had been shaped,
before the hills, I was brought forth—
when he had not yet made earth and fields,
or the world’s first bits of soil.
When he established the heavens, I was there,
when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
when he made firm the skies above,
when he established the fountains of the deep,
when he assigned to the sea its limit,
so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
then I was beside him, like a master worker;
and I was daily his delight,
rejoicing before him always,
rejoicing in his inhabited world
and delighting in the human race.

Scripture Readings: John 16:12-15

‘I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

The Gospel of Christ, light of the world.
Thanks be to God.

Sermon

We Sing: God Beyond All Names

  1. God, beyond our dreams,
    you have stirred in us a mem’ry;
    you have placed your pow’rful spirit
    in the hearts of human kind.

    All around us we have known you,
    all creation lives to hold you.
    In our living and our dying
    we are bringing you to birth

  2. God, beyond all names,
    you have made us in your image;
    we are like you, we reflect you;
    we are woman, we are man.

    All around us we have known you,
    all creation lives to hold you.
    In our living and our dying
    we are bringing you to birth

  3. God, beyond all words,
    all creation tells your story;
    you have shaken with our laughter,
    you have trembled with our tears.

    All around us we have known you,
    all creation lives to hold you.
    In our living and our dying
    we are bringing you to birth

  4. God, beyond all time,
    you are laboring within us;
    we are moving, we are changing
    in your spirit ever new.

    All around us we have known you,
    all creation lives to hold you.
    In our living and our dying
    we are bringing you to birth

  5. God of tender care,
    you have cradled us in goodness;
    you have mothered us in wholeness,
    you have loved us into birth.

    All around us we have known you,
    all creation lives to hold you.
    In our living and our dying
    we are bringing you to birth

Prayers of the People

…And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying:

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be Your name,

your Kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in Heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins,

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial

and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power

and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

We Sing: As the Wind Song

  1. As the wind song through the trees,
    as the stirring of the breeze,
    so it is with the Spirit of God,
    as the heart made strangely warm,
    as the voice within the storm,
    so it is with the Spirit of God.
    Never seen, ever known
    where this wind has blown
    bringing life, bringing power to the world,
    as the dancing tongues of fire,
    as the soul’s most deep desire,
    so it is with the Spirit of God.

  2. As the rainbow after rain,
    as the hope that’s born again,
    so it is with the Spirit of God,
    as the green in the spring,
    as a kite on a string,
    so it is with the Spirit of God,
    making worlds that are new,
    making peace come true,
    bringing gifts, bringing love to the world,
    as the rising of the yeast,
    as the wine at the feast,
    so it is with the Spirit of God.
